Gaming Header
Preview: Metal Gear Solid: Guns Of The Patriot Header Design.
STEP 1: Start with a 1000 x 190 pixels black
canvas, in your layers window make a new layer set and name it Gaming
Header. Create a new layer then choose your Rectangle Tool and
draw a 1000 x 103 pixels, #1D1D1D colored rectangle. This will be the
size of your header so if your current header is smaller just add your
own width settings.
STEP 2: Create a new layer, just below the inside of your header draw a 1000 x 16, black rectangle. Then add an Inner Shadow and Gradient Overlay layer styles. Also set the layers opacity level to 29%.
STEP 3: Duplicate your large rectangle layer from
step 2 and position right below your header design. Edit the layers
opacity level to 15%.
STEP 4: Create a new layer and draw a 1000 x 13
pixels, white rectangle between your step two and three rectangle
layer. See the picture below for the proper settings. Now add a Gradient overlay layer style.
STEP 5: Make a new layer set and name it ‘Navigation Button’. Now choose your Rounded Rectangle Tool
and set the radius setting to 20 px with anti-aliased checked. In a new
layer draw a 150 x 21 pixels, white rounded rectangle. Then cut the top
half of your rounded rectangle.
STEP 6: Apply these layer styles:
STEP 7: Make the same white rounded rectangle from
step 5 and place it as shown on the picture below. Then add the
following layer styles:
STEP 8: Choose your Text tool and
select font Eurostile from the font list. Set the size to 14 pt, crisp
and #85EEE80 for color. In a new text layer type your first navigation
link on the center of the navigation button design. Then add a Stroke layer style:
STEP 9: Now add the rest of your navigation links by duplicate your ‘Navigation Button’ layer set through Layer -> Duplicate Layer Set.
Make sure you highlight the layer set from your layers window. Set the
tabs side by side with a little space between each button.
STEP 10: On your blank header design add a custom Metal Gear Solid banner, you can download the header design here.
STEP 11: Create a new layer. Right above your
header design draw a 1000 x 17 pixels, #1C1C1A colored rectangle. Then
add the following layer styles:
STEP 12: Choose your Text tool and
select font Eurostile from the font list. Set the size to 9 pt, smooth
and white for color. In a new text layer type your extra links at the
end of your navigation buttons. Then add a Stroke layer style.
Final result:
